Innertech

By Esia Nathaniel, founder of 21 Dimensions

Innertech, short for inner technology, is any practice that reliably changes a person's inner state or capacity: a breathing pattern that shifts the nervous system in minutes, a meditation, a ceremony, a framework for self-knowledge. Outer technology extends what we can do in the world; innertech extends who we can be in it.

Technology in the older sense

Technology comes from the Greek techne: a systematic craft. Humans developed inner crafts long before machines: breath practices, contemplative training, rites of passage, ways of gathering and deciding together.

They were refined across generations and passed on because they worked. 21 Dimensions calls them the forgotten technologies of the soul.

What makes something innertech

It is practiced, and its value shows in experience. It produces a change you can notice, often in the body first. And it can be taught, so the capacity it builds is trainable.

By that measure, Coherent Breathing, Somatic Experiencing, Nonviolent Communication, a council circle and a Human Design reading are all innertech, each working on a different layer of human experience.

Innertech on the 21 Dimensions map

The map gathers innertech from every field and organizes it by the dimension of experience it works with, from Mind and Breath to Ceremony and Integration.

Each practice connects to facilitators who teach it, so a curiosity about a method can become a lived capacity.
