Somatic Experiencing
Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a body-oriented approach to resolving stress and trauma, developed by Peter Levine, that works with bodily sensations to help the nervous system complete stress responses and return to regulation.
How it works
A practitioner guides attention to sensations in the body, moving gently between activation and settling (often called titration and pendulation) so the nervous system can discharge stored stress without being overwhelmed.
Sessions are conversational and slow, focused more on what the body is doing than on retelling a story.
Who it's for
People carrying chronic stress or the after-effects of difficult experiences in the body, and leaders who want to understand their own stress patterns from the inside. SE is practiced by certified practitioners and works alongside psychotherapy where that is needed.
