The Holotropic Map of Human Experience
By Esia Nathaniel, founder of 21 Dimensions
The Holotropic Map of Human Experience is the 21 Dimensions framework: a map of the full range of human experience, organized into interlocking dimensions from Mind and Body to Ceremony and Sacred Plants, each one a doorway toward wholeness.
Why holotropic
Holotropic is used in the sense Stanislav Grof gave the word: oriented toward wholeness, from the Greek holos (whole) and trepein (to move toward).
A holotropic map describes movement as much as territory. It shows where a person already lives, and the directions in which they can become more whole.
What the map contains
The dimensions are organized into four groups. Foundations: Mind, Body, Breath, Movement and Voice. Connection & Relational: Sound, Heart, Communication, Play and Art. Meaning & Belonging: Ceremony, Nutrition, Philosophy, DNA and Nature. The Liminal Edge: Energy, Death, Psychedelics, Sacred Plants and Integration.
Each dimension is a real field of practice, with its own science, lineages, methods and facilitators.
How the map is used
There is no correct sequence. Each dimension is a doorway: you enter where you are, and the map opens from there.
Map Yourself shows which dimensions are already alive in you and which are still open. Facilitators and protocols in each dimension turn that picture into practice, because what can be held, felt and acted on becomes real capacity.
